Can I Insure Against The Current Bad Weather?

Exhibitor Insurance can only cover the consequences of the unforeseen. It is not possible to take out insurance against a known or existing cause of loss, or a situation which may develop into a loss - all event insurance (whoever you buy it from) is written on this basis.

Across the UK at present (particularly Scotland, Northern Ireland, Northern England and Cornwall) there has been severe disruption to transport caused by the bad weather, and this is forecast to spread Southwards during the week.  The bad weather is now a known cause of potential loss, so please bear this in mind if you are thinking of buying insurance now - the circumstances may not be covered, depending on when and where the event is taking place.

If you bought your exhibitor insurance some time ago, then the current bad weather was not a known circumstance at that time, so you are OK. Also, once the weather returns to seasonal norms, it will cease to be a general existing circumstance, and will be insurable again.

If insurers were to take on an existing cause of loss, it would be rather like insuring a house that was already on fire - not possible.

This situation once again illustrates the importance of planning ahead and buying event insurance early in the event management process.

The weather has no effect on the availability or validity of liability insurance by the way.
